Living here

Some people cite the historical aspect of the estate for living here as well as it being one of the most desirable areas of Camberwell. Although there are many more reasons to reside in the Golf Links Estate

  • A sense of community: Residents keep a look out for their neighbours. Should an alarm go off it's not ignored and neighbours check that everything is OK.

  • Friendship: The estate has a village feel about it and you get to know people, other than your immediate neighbours.

  • Get-togethers: There are street parties and gatherings in local parks, especially around Christmas time and Halloween.

  • Public transport: Good public transport is on our doorstep and is a major drawcard for many people.

  • Parks and recreation areas: Parks, play areas for children, Willison Tennis Club and a cricket ground, as well as cricket nets, are close by. The Camberwell football/cricket ground also isn't far away.

  • Schooling: Highly regarded primary and secondary schools are within walking distance and the estate falls within the zone for Camberwell High School.

  • Security: The estate is seen as a safe place to raise children, and the sense of security is enhanced by minimal through traffic and the 40 kph speed limit.

  • Amenities: We are a short distance from the Burke Road, Middle Camberwell and Hartwell shopping strips, complete with restaurants and cafes. And of course that local landmark, Monaco's Deli, is also close by.          "Visit Monaco's Facebook page"

  • Continuity – There is a warm glow inside, knowing you will never have the home beside you demolished and multiple residences take its place –many of the residents in the Golf Links Estate have purchased for that reason alone, the other above benefits just come with the territory.

  • Investment – Why have people invested in the Estate as their family home? For the above reasons and as a side benefit it could be argued that it is is a first class investment. As people become more and more frustrated with the 2, 3 and 4+ story units being built next door to them a place like the Estate must become more valuable? One resident of the Estate tells this story:       "We purchased in the Estate as we love the 1930's architecture and are comforted in the the knowledge that a monstrosity can't be built next to us. Our previous home was also in Boroondarah and was a 1930's home with a VERY secluded garden, there was one house on each side when we moved in. Today, on one side there is a 4 story 23 unit monolith, on the other side  3 double story units and on the back fence line a dual occupancy development, built right up to the fence. All privacy gone, now there are multiple people who can see into that garden from around 12 premises and terrible car parking and noise issues. - If you want to see what can happen go have a look at it. It's 311 High Street Ashburton - that poor little house that once had 3 neighbours on it 3 sides is now surrounded by 27!!!!!"

  • Shopping and Camberwell Junction – Less than 700 metres from the Estate is the beginning of the shopping mecca that is, Camberwell Junction. Here you will find numerous, cafes, restaurants, retail stores, medical services, newsagents, post office, Camberwell police station, most banks and the very well known Rivoli Cinema - All of this within easy walking distance.

Reassuarace from Ever Changing Laws – Below, snippets from articles from THE AGE and HERALD SUN - March 2017.

It's nice to have the protection of the Heritage Overlay for the estate with planning laws for Victoria constantly changing, see below:
